In 1976 Joy and Hugh Ganter opened Seafood World in Lighthouse Point, Florida. After many years in the Bahamas, they had a clear ideal of the kind of restaurant they wanted and that focus has never changed. They serve the freshest seafood in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where recipes are simple and tasteful. Sauces and spices enhance, but don't overpower the seafood.

As the restaurant grew, they opened a market to provide a source of fresh seafood to a growing customer base. This created a need to develop better sources for the kinds of seafood products, in particular the island products such as conch and stone crabs, that have made Seafood World a local legend. This led to the opening of Seafood World Wholesale, which today is a thriving part of the operation. Managed by sons Chris and Troy, they believe that no one can compete with their delivery of the highest quality products to other restaurants, markets, and exporters. The standard is simple, it has to be good enough to be served at Seafood World Restaurant.

While the restaurant and wholesale divisions grew so did the demand for catering services. What began small and simple is, after the investment in state of the art equipment, now a top notch catering service offering a variety of menus from seafood to barbecues, to the finest of white linen gourmet presentations.
